HPS to play key role as system integrator in new ferry for Herøy and Dønna
Haf Power Solutions (HPS) has been selected by Remontowa Shipbuilding as system integrator for the energy and propulsion systems on Torghatten’s new ferry for the Dønna route. The delivery will ensure reliable, safe and lower-emission ferry operations on an important transport link for local communities and businesses in Helgeland.
The Herøy–Dønna ferry connection is vital to both local communities and key industries on Helgeland. It facilitates the daily transport of passengers, goods and industries such as fisheries and aquaculture, all of which rely on uninterrupted, reliable operation throughout the year.
In its delivery to Remontowa Shipbuilding HPS will make sure that the vessel’s energy flow, propulsion and power supply work together as one integrated system. This includes system architecture for power distribution and energy management, as well as preparations for efficient and stable charging infrastructure. The result is a robust solution that is straightforward for the crew to operate in a busy ferry schedule.
“When a ferry service is critical to both local communities and businesses, the technology must be reliable and predictable. Our role is to make sure all systems work seamlessly together, helping Torghatten deliver stable and greener ferry services in Helgeland,” says Bengt-Olav Berntsen, CEO in HPS.
The solutions support further electrification of ferry operations, and lower emissions in daily service. Efficient energy management and preparations for shore charging enable the use of renewable energy and further supports Torghatten’ work to develop more sustainable ferry services in Helgeland.
REMONTOWA Shipbuilding in Poland will build the vessel. The Gdańsk-based yard is part of Remontowa Holding and has extensive experience in designing and building modern ferries for demanding coastal operations. In recent years, Remontowa Shipbuilding has delivered several hybrid ferry projects, strengthening its position as an experienced partner.
“We put strong emphasis on delivering a well-planned and robust ferry, built for year-round operation along the Norwegian coast. Working with HPS strengthens the technical integration on board and contributes to a solution well suited to the vessel’s operation,” says Piotr Alboszta, Project Manager in REMONTOWA Shipbuilding.
The project is part of Torghatten’s long-term commitment to ferry services that combine zero emissions, high availability and safe operation for communities that depend on reliable sea transport.
“We will provide safe and reliable services to local communities that depend on sea transport. That is why it is important to build vessels with integrated technical solutions that can handle demanding operations, while also supporting the transition to more sustainable ferry traffic,” says Eirik Olsen, CTO i Torghatten.
